PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 7/6/2020
King James Bible | 7/6/2020 | pilgrimsprogress

“An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:18-19 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
There's something wrong with us. There is a seed of something that dwells in us. Even the youngest and most innocent among us, those that haven't been taught anything, though that haven't seen things that they regret. There's something wrong with us, all right? And God hate the lying tongue.

TODAY’S VERSE:

“An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:18-19 KJV).

“An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,” that’s where evil springs from. That’s the well of real wickedness, the heart. God hates that.

“. . . feet that be swift in running to mischief,” how big a hurry a man is in to do mischief.

“A false witness that speaketh lies,” God throws lying in there twice. There isn’t much difference between a lying tongue and a false witness telling lies. You know it was a false witness that sent Jesus Christ to the Cross? The Son of God was betrayed by false witnesses. Paul was betrayed by false witnesses, and chances are good that before it is all over with, we will be also. Somebody will lie about you.

You have your kids in a Christian school? Someone will say they saw you mistreating them, of course, anonymously. Someone will say you are mistreating your kids because you took the TV set away from them. They will say that you are depriving them of something they need in this life.

“. . . and he that soweth discord among brethren,” that one is used quite a bit in Bible-believing churches of people that talk about other believers behind their back. Brethren, in the days of the Proverbs, likely spoke of kinship. The Lord hates that.

Rather then sow discord, sow unity. You can do that by having the same mind and the same spirit. Paul speaks of that in I Corinthians 1 and Ephesians 2, “having unity in the spirit.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
