PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 7/5/2020
King James Bible | 7/5/2020 | pilgrimsprogress

“I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly” (Proverbs 5:14 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
Keep your heart with all diligence. God hates hypocrisy. He wants your heart, all of it. He does not care about your lips if your heart is not all His first. He does not care about your attendance if you harbor unconfessed sins in your life. If you’ve never received Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, no amount of church attendance will matter at the Great White Throne Judgment of God where you will stand before open books searching in vain for your name to be written down.

TODAY’S VERSE:

“I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly” (Proverbs 5:14 KJV).

“I was almost in all evil,” just got into every kind of mess you could think of, “in the midst of the congregation and assembly,” right in the midst of having heard the truth and knowing the truth, getting in trouble. A man can be in the center of Christian activity and still be a mess if his life if his attitude stinks. That is why it is so important back there in chapter 4:23 and the issue with the heart. There are a lot of people to go to church and live like the Devil, look like the Devil, act like the Devil. That is why churches have splits, and churches have troubles, because one or more people in the midst of the congregation are full of evil.

This was true of David right down to the end. I mean, right down to the end of his affair with Bathsheba, he was right in the midst of the congregation. Right down to the murder of Uriah, he was looking just as spiritual as everyone else. Right up to the time that Nathan came to him, he knew about the lamb for a lamb. David knew where that was without even looking for it. Scofield doesn’t even have a cross-reference for it. David was right in the midst of the congregation and he was just as backslidden as a man could be. He was in all evil. You can do it in church.

Have you ever really thought about what that means? “I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.” The Bible says that the plowing of the wicked is sin and the sacrifices of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, so there are people that go to church regularly that lies to them all the time. It’s not a church where they get any truth, there's no light in it, and they are surrounded by Devils and demons and falsehood and false light, and so on. They are sitting there in the middle of a congregation of people who, in words, are worshipping God’s Son, but in the end that sacrifice is an abomination to the Lord. He doesn't hear the prayer of that wickedness. And so, they are “in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.”

They go to church and sin. They go to church and are an abomination to the Lord. They go to church and have fellowship with devils. Isn’t that something? And then after a lifetime of faithful service to that religious organization, and then they die and go to a Christless hell for an eternity of suffering. And for that eternity they will mourn: “How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!”

“He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination” (Proverbs 28:9).

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

Salvation is not,"do good, get good; do bad, get bad!"

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Taken from https://davesdailyscriptures.blog/2018/11/09/mt-sinai-or-mt-zion/

Mt. Sinai and Mt. Zion both are real places, but they are also symbolic. Mt. Sinai is the place Moses received the ten commandments and represents the Law. It represents legalism and works. It represents fear. Mt. Zion is where Christ was crucified. It represents grace. It represents Jesus’ blood that paid for our sins so that we may be forgiven and saved. It represents heaven. Many choose one or the other. Which would you choose? Of course, those who are believers and have accepted the grace that God has given us to be saved, it does not mean we ignore the ten commandments. The difference is we want to honor God and be obedient to Him because of His grace and because we love Him, not so that we can earn favor with Him. We cannot. There is one way to salvation and that is through the cross. It is through Jesus Christ and Jesus alone.

"For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. (For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.” And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”)"- Hebrews 12:18-28

So, let me pose these questions - does sin keep the Christian from entering heaven & eternal life? Are there certain sins that keep the Christian from entering heaven & eternal life? Does eternal life require sinless perfection from the Christian and if not at what point is the sin "too much" to allow enterance into glory?

Yes. Absolutely true.

Today’s lesson deals with the man that has attended “church” all his life and has never heard the plain teaching of the gospel. We would agree that going to church does not make anyone a Christian, any more than living in a garage makes one a car.

It also deals with the man that does know the Saviour, or at least has made a profession of faith, and still lives so deeply in the world that he is of no use to the Lord.

One can not lose what he never possessed, but if they are saved and living like the devil - while they will not go to hell, they will lose their rewards at the judgment seat of Christ.
