My guess is their hatred of society stems from a wish to have their behavior normalized.

The acts of the people destroys the land. Look at pagan lands around the world, most of their nations struggle to produce crops. Ever see a satellite photo of Haiti next to the Dominican Rep? It looks like a desert wasteland next to a jungle paradise on the same island.
These people have a depraved mindset of Romans 1:18-32. Probably beyond redemption, though I know of a few who have escaped it.

Well I do believe that, and I believe exactly what you said. If you read Genesis 19:5-10 you see that exact same spirit lawless hatred/fanaticism. Today we see that homosexuals are replicating that same spirit of militantism. When someone, anyone, opposes them they lash out with unbridled wickedness and destruction.
This is what we are seeing today. The exact same thing as in Genesis 19.
