Catholic youths protect statue of Saint Serra, June 20, 2020, Ventura, California.
VENTURA, California, June 25, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) A group of courageous young Catholics surrounded the statue of a saint in Ventura, California last Saturday, placing their bodies in between Junipero Serra and the mob who wanted to tear him down.
The anti-Serra demonstrators had put out a call on social media for the June 20 event that began at 1 PM. Calling the event Tear down Junipero Serra, the demonstrators stated that No longer shall we celebrate the enslavement, rape, and genocide of the original people of Ventura.
That same weekend, statues of Catholic saint Serra, considered the founder of the California missions, were toppled and defaced in San Franciscos Golden Gate Park and historic Olvera Street in Los Angeles. Serra, a Spanish Franciscan missionary to the United States, helped to found nine missions in California in the late eighteenth century. He established the mission of San Buenaventura in 1782, which is now present-day Ventura. His statue was erected at city hall in 1936. The current bronze statue was erected in 1989. Pope Francis canonized him in 2015.
At 1 PM, anti-Serra demonstrators, about 200, gathered near the statue of the saint, located in front of Venturas city hall, where they began a rowdy demonstration.
Rally speakers addressed a diverse and vocal crowd whose slogans included Black Lives Matter and who held signs reading He Aint No Saint and Father Genocide.

What’s a yout?
Good news in a troubled time
Up next - bishops and pope condemn.
I notice one kid is sporting a Thomas Aquinas College t-shirt. When I saw the headline, I expected TAC involvement in this one. They’re great Catholic kids and always turn out in full force for pro-life marches. God bless them.
I love this line, because the same woke Mexicanos in California always use those early missions to claim California for Mexico.
Well guess what, Aztlanis, California was never settled by Mexicans. Spaniards, Ce, Mexico No. USA, CE!
If it took a bunch of Students to save the statue, what does that say about the Ventura County Sheriff and the Ventura city police?? It appears they approved of the destruction otherwise they would have been there.
My first thought too.
R U Series ?
Faith, that gives them strength.
Meanwhile the Hierarchy orders the removal of the Serra statue at Mission San Luis Obispo, clearly signalling the position of the church leadership. What saint next to be purged?
Whats a yout?
These kids, by their actions and stance, shame much of our political leadership who will not even speak up against the Marxist mob and their Soros backer. Where are the religious leaders? The Protestant establishment was gone 30 years ago, the Catholics are led by a Marxist pope, and even the evangelicals are quiet.
Praise be to G-d!
