I think the 616 argument is a deception. To top Greek and Hebrew experts of our day (e.g. Dr Arnold Fructenbaum and others) have not endorsed this view. Besides, how is 616 the number of man? Was man made on the 1st day? 666 is a reference to trusting man, instead of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Or trusting Me, Myself, and I.
And James White, every bit the scholar Fructenbaum is, but has written more scholarly books and is much more widely published, disagrees with this take. At this point 666 or 616 have just as good an argument for being the original text.
