Moscow, October 18, Interfax - The liberal idea is foreign to the Russian mentality and is no good for Russian people, the first deputy head of the Synodal Department for Church's Relations with Society and Mass Media, Alexander Shchipkov, said.
"Liberalism is not beneficial for Russians, neither in a conservative package, nor in a social one. The societal caste model and the ability of some to survive at the expense of others do not coincide with what is written in the Gospel. We need a value-based traditionalism, which corresponds to our identity," Shchipkov said at a meeting of the World Russian People's Council in Moscow on Friday.
Shchipkov was elected as the organization's deputy leader earlier in the day.
The Orthodox Church, along with other mainstream religions, defends Biblical, and thus universal, norms and values regardless of person, rank, ethnicity, and social status, he said.
"Ideologically, the liberals in opposition and liberals in regional government represent one whole. A politician who says, 'it's time to stop building churches,' does not realize that in Russia this sounds as absurd as 'time to stop issuing pensions' or 'time to stop giving birth to children," Shchipkov said.
What Russia needs is a social model which would "safeguard the people" and so its foundations should overlap with the cultural and religious values of the people, he said.
The World Russian People's Council was founded in 1993. It is led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The liberal idea is not good for anybody.
There it is in a nutshell.
Eastern Europeans in general, and Russians in particular, are very hard headed people. While they did have Communism imposed on them, it’s a stretch to say they were ever Liberal. Liberal and PC ideas are very difficult for them to swallow — which may be their salvation.
According to Western polls people are more and more soft on Communist with each generation.
In US itself the majority of people under 30 favor socialism vs capitalism (although the latter is Marxist term as well).
East Europe is absolutely not immune. The fact is that they lived under socialism helps to strengthen up but even in Russia there is an adult generation grew up who don’t know socialism first hand. All these people are easy targets for left wing agitation.
