Among the new cardinals is Liverpool's Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald, 82, former papal ambassador to Egypt.
Disloyalty in the Church is rooted in a lack of compassion and indifference, Pope Francis said as he made 13 new cardinals in St Peters Basilica.
The 82-year-old Roman Pontiff, who has faced unprecedented public opposition to his ministry from some high ranking prelates, argued that without a lively awareness of Gods compassion, disloyalty to our own ministry seeps in.
The readiness of a cardinal to shed his own blood as signified by the colour of your robes is secure if it is rooted in this awareness of having been shown compassion and in the ability to show compassion in return. Otherwise, we cannot be loyal, the Pope told the men he would elevate to the highest ranks in the Church.
So many disloyal actions on the part of ecclesiastics are born of the lack of a sense of having been shown compassion, and by the habit of averting ones gaze, the habit of indifference.
The consistory ceremony to make the new cardinals took place the day before the Synod of Bishops on the Amazon, which has been criticised by cardinals such as Raymond Burke, the Patron of the Order of Malta, and Gerhard Müller, the former Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

I sometimes have to remind myself that in the end the Lord is still in control.
Disloyal to whom? Bergoglio or Jesus Christ?
One cannot serve two masters.
Imagine that.
The pope is putting in his own support system.
Nice racket there.
Guaranteeing that his successors will continue to dismantle what’s left of the Catholic church.
Does anyone have the skinny on these new Cardinals? I mean my expectations are not good but still, I’d like to know the facts...
Bump
As with the Holy Fathers previous appointments, they have a broad geographical scope and are supportive of issues he has prioritized, such as immigration, the environment and dialogue with Islam.
I’m getting a queasy feeling.

Francis Announces Creation of 13 new Cardinals — 10 New Electors, Most Liberal Group Ever Assembled
In the end of the Angelus today, Francis announced a Consistory for the creation of new Cardinals, set for October 5, 2019.
The Cardinal Electors (under 80) are:
- Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, mccj President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious dialogue
- José Tolentino Medonça Archivist and Librarian of Holy Roman Church
- Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo Archbishop of Jakarta
- Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez Archbishop of Havana
- Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, o.f.m. cap Archbishop of Kinshasa
- Jean-Claude Höllerich, sj Archbishop of Luxembourg
- Alvaro L. Ramazzini Imeri Bishop of Huehuetenamgo, Guatemala
- Matteo Zuppi Archbishop of Bologna.
- Cristóbal Lopez Romero, sdb Archbishop of Rabat.
- Michael Czerny, sj Undersecretary for Migrants (Holy See)
They are, without a doubt, the most liberal group of Cardinal-Electors ever assembled. At least two of them are widely known in Roman Circles for their “gay” preferences (and the word “gay” is used here advisedly, to include the whole homosexual “gay culture” mentioned by Benedict XVI in his 2005 document on seminarians to be avoided), as well as 2 liberal Jesuits. Even those explicitly non-liberal, as the Abp. of Kinshasa, were chosen probably due to their extreme proximity with the German Church and the concerns of the German bishops.
As for Michael Fitzgerald, chosen as one of 3 non-voting Cardinals, we recall this 2006 post, on why Benedict XVI sent him far away from the Vatican.
The passion of the Church will last for many decades more. And Francis will never resign. Not only that, the Puppeteers will leave him in a coma “creating cardinals” for years, if that is what it takes to completely remake the College of Cardinals.
He’s talking about disloyalty to the Church...ironic since the Church hasn’t been loyal to the Word and preaching about Jesus...the Pope is a community organizer/ecoterrorist/illegal supporter.
IF Roman Catholics were to closely examine their history they would see Frances is not the first to do this. Prior popes have so insulated themselves against criticism, removal, heresy, etc, the Roman Catholic is basically stuck with their pope....like him or not.
The heretical antipope surrounds himself with traitors in red robes.
There’s a world of difference between being loyal to a church and its teachings and being loyal to Jesus.
I agree - if the Church isn’t loyal to Jesus and The Word, why does it deserve loyalty to itself?
Good question.
