Commentators portray closure as solution to sectarian strife
GLASGOW, Scotland (ChurchMilitant.com) - Following a flare-up of sectarian tensions in Glasgow earlier this month, calls are growing in the Scottish press to close the country's Catholic schools.
In an interview published Sunday, former sports commentator Archie Macpherson called for a national debate on the future of parochial education.
Contemplating the possibility of phasing out Catholic schools, Macpherson argued: "I think the discussion of it should be open and bold. It should be discussed. One of the aspects of our society is we acquiesce. We don't question enough. What sort of education system do we want in an increasingly secular society?"
"How do we educate people?" Macpherson asked. "How do we bring them together? How do we have social cohesion? We separate children at the age of five. We've got to look at that."
Peter Kearney, director of the Scottish Catholic Media Office, was quick to respond.
Blasting the assertion that Catholic schools are to blame for social tensions in the Protestant-majority country, Kearney wrote: "Around Europe, and across the world, Catholic schools exist and prosper in societies bereft of the bigotry and intolerance found here. The historical religious divisions that still leave us tainted with sectarian bigotry, pre-date the existence of Catholic schools, so cannot have been created by them."

When I hear of people like Archie going after Catholic schools, why is it that the first thing that comes to mind is that he's likely a homosexual - since homosexuals are in the front rank of antiCatholicism?
I could be wrong, I guess...

"The endgame of diversity is annihilation of diversity." Well put. Those who push diversity only do so when they are not in the majority. It is then when they demand that the majority give up power to them - in the name of 'diversity'. Once they gain power they cease to want true diversity, and only seek to consolidate their power and eradicate their opposition.

The greatest threat of Catholic education to the state is not the "Catholic" part. It is the "education" part, where the results of Catholic schools show what crap government schools produce in K-12.

Can’t see this happening. It would look like sectarian bigotry by tribalism protestants associated with rangers and conservative culture, which the lefty progressive SNP would never want to facilitate.

"The endgame of diversity is annihilation of diversity."
Exactly. In the name of "diversity," all national cultures and local distinctions are being diluted and destroyed in the name of a globalist "uniculture" or "monoculture."
No one will feel fully at home in their own countries as each country's collective memory and traditions are gradually abolished through transformation of the education system and popular culture, along with mass immigration and dismantling of historical monuments and place names.
Britain, Canada, and Western Europe are about 10-20 years ahead of us in this process, but we seem to be closing the gap. The cultural change in just the last 5-10 years is astonishing. Traditional Christians are almost being forced underground.
Just yesterday I went to a festival at a Russian Orthodox Church near downtown Seattle. That church - with its distinctive onion domes - is about the only surviving older building in that entire neighborhood, and I wonder how long it will last. There is little parking in the area, and the few parking lots can only be accessed via smart phone apps. It looks and feels like the church is being squeezed out.
The neighborhood is now filled with condos and apartments of 5-10 stories suitable only for childless adults, and a few pubs and restaurants. There is no place for young children to play and little sense of community.
Regarding "community," notice how often that word is tossed around in corporate ads, e.g., "giving back to the community." When people are constantly prattling about "community" and "family," it is a sign that community and family are dying, that they are becoming slogans and buzz-words rather than realities.

particularly when so many of them are priests? i think it is a secular leftist movement. Religious schools of any kind should be allowed unrestricted. Forcing all children into government schools screams if indoctrination and loss of all liberty. The antifa globalists would love it.

Even if some few priests are gay, the homosexual movement hate the Catholic Church with all of their distorted, perverted passion.
Catholic doctrine and the majority of practicing Catholics know that homosexual practices and “culture” are profoundly disorded and sinful.
Hence the continuous attacks against the Church.
