The Catholic *church* has been in trouble for a long time and they are finally reaping in the whirlwind what they long ago sowed in the wind.

My Francis? I'm not Catholic, and I think Francis is at best an embarrassing disgrace to his church. Also, I dislike fake news, and I think the linked article qualifies. There is a big difference between praising the life's work of those who were killed and endorsing their murders.

If you believe it’s “Fake News”, that’s all on you. There’s plenty of proof and quotes out there that this diabolical monster of a man shrugs off the murders of Europeans, Christians, and other innocents at the hands of barbarian ‘migrants’.
Even a good portion of Catholics would agree Frankie is a lunatic worthy of excommunication or worse.

Note that he did not say "The deaths of 19 religious men and women..." He was praising them for putting their own lives at serious risk to offer an alternative to Islam.
The "event" in your quote was obviously the beatification ceremony, not the slaughter of Christians. Pope Francis was correct. It was extraordinary that the ceremony was permitted in Algeria, a 98% Muslim country, and was approved by the (Muslim) Algerian president. That would never have happened in Somalia or Libya. For the ceremony to have taken place required substantial cooperation from Muslims, which Francis tried to acknowledge: “We believe that this event, which is unprecedented in your country, will draw a great sign of brotherhood in the Algerian sky for the whole world.” That might be excessive praise, but some praise was certainly appropriate. The more tolerance of Christianity in Muslim countries, the better.

Happy to have it be on me. These days you can rely on the left to ascribe the worst possible motivation, however unlikely, to the words and actions of conservatives. I don't like the reverse any better, even when the target is a leftist I dislike.
