Last month, I visited Grace Community Church in Sun Valley. Their music is traditional and includes a 100-member choir, a children's choir with 50 members and an orchestra. The pastor, John MacArthur is a distant relative of General Douglas MacArthur. Where I disagree with him is in theology--he's a Calvinist and I'm a Wesleyan.
The LCMS does not permit women pastors, although women can be deaconesses and certified teachers, and they take a full part in the activities of the church; but men take the role of congregational leadership. LCMS does not permit or perform gay marriages.
While many of the individual congregations may have the "praise bands" and Christian pop music, most LCMS's usually offer the traditional liturgy and hymns, which are very beautiful. See if there are a few near you. There are a lot around LA. Congregations may differ, so try out a couple:
