The mainstream media spun it as it if was about gay rights. It was actually Russia cracking down on its porn industry, especially porn (mostly homosexual) that was being spread to children, or using efforts to recruit children into porn and the homosexual lifestyle.
Obama put sanctions on those legislators that were involved in getting the law passed.
