Eons ago, when then Msgr. Bransfield was rector of the National Shrine, he was hostile to the Latin Mass, and refused to allow it in the Basilica. I found that fact both surprising (I didn’t know, at the time, that he was a fag) and very disappointing. More recently, I know a priest who I thought to be a good and holy man who left not only the Priesthood but the Church due to some sort of conflict with Bishop Bransfield. I was never able to determine the nature of the conflict. Now I wonder …

On the other side of the coin, Bp Bransfield allowed the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem to establish a monastery in WV, where they offer the Mass and sacraments according to the Extraordinary Form.
