You are misreading something. If Joseph was a type and shadow of the coming Christ, then adoption of Joseph's children by Jacob(Israel) was the key for their inheritance. A Gentile can't get there without Christ.

A Gentile can't get there without Christ. Neither can Jews. The scripture is quite clear that faith is necessary in Christ. All the Pharisees, all the members of the "synagogue of Satan," are in hell. Christ is the "seed" of promise, the Israel of God, and we join Israel through him. By definition, no unbelieving Jew can be Israel since it is a spiritual condition obtained through a union with God.
