Also agree that much of their foreign policy is driven more by wanting to poke us than rational thought.
Too many senior US military and civilian leaders have the same issues - an excessive distrust and hostility toward Russia.
If they could set aside Iran, and we could set aside Saudi Arabia - we could form a powerful and natural alliance with Russia, much of central and east Europe (this would take some time) and much of Asia including Korea, Japan, India, Thailand etc.
Western European nations that stop committing cultural suicide would also be welcome.
The biggest problem in relations between US and other countries is that it insists that no other nation might be dominant in any particular part of the world and yet maintain that no nation from outside the western hemisphere might wield any influence at all here. There is no justice in such approach and it makes no sense from the perspective of any other nation.
That combines with the fact that US doesn’t really have any competent diplomacy since the end of Cold War. The department of state might still have some smart people but actually dominated by arrogant small minds who know only two tools: threats and bribes. And the bribes aren’t even generous anymore.
That creates imminent conflict with any nation which has at least some dignity, too powerful to be threatened and doesn’t have a culture of bribery. Also there is no consistency in US foreign policy. The winds tend to change dramatically with every new administration.
Just ask yourself do US even has any allies at all anymore. Chances that you might scrap a tiny group of somehow friendly nations together but these are factually jackals following the big kid on block.
If an autocrat throne exists that can do whatever it wants to do with the books, then the books are figureheads.
