Man -- Adam -- is created by God on day 6. Only Eve is made later than Adam as Eve is created from Adam's rib. There is no creation of man prior to Adam. That is a non-biblically supported fantasy of Hugh Ross's to try to account for death entering into the Creation at a time prior to Adam's sin. Ross's position is in direct conflict with Paul where he writes in Romans 5:12, "For by one man sin entered the world and death by sin...." and in 1 Corinthians 15:21-22: "For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive."
And so Adam and Eve is the story of man. The 6000 years is not the history of earth. It is the history of man.
If you have read the Bible you realize that the history of man coincides perfectly with the age of the Earth. All years and Earth ages defined in terms of days and years are the same throughout Genesis. Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He is the Creator of the Universe itself (John 1:1-5). To say otherwise, that He contradicts Himself, or doesn't tell it straight as He inspired Moses to wrote it blasphemes Him.
God made Adam and Eve 6000 to 7000 years ago. God breathed life and gave a soul to Adam and Eve so they would have the capacity to know right from wrong and receive the Holy Spirit. Other men and women had been around for quite sometime. We know this because After Adam and Eve had their two sons, Cain slew Abel, Cain went into the land of Nod and found a wife and he continued to live.
Actually more correctly Adam and Eve had many more children than just 3 sons, Cain, Able, and Seth. Genesis 5:4 makes it clear that they had multiple sons and daughters: "After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters."
So where did Cain go to find a wife if Adam and Eve were the only couple on earth?
Cain married a sister or his niece. This was possible due to the fact that in this case a single generation removed from the original creation of Adam and Eve posed no meaningful possibility genetic complication due to procreation with a close relative. God did not prohibit marriage between siblings until the time of Leviticus 18:6–18. On the premise that a purpose of marriage is to procreate by this time enough genetic corruption had entered the gene pool of mankind generally that to procreate with a close relative would amplify the possibility of genetic malformation in offspring.
However, scientists erroneously concluded that this evidence disproved the story of Adam and Eve. As usual they are misguided.
Which "scientists" supposedly claimed this, upon which premise did they make their prediction and what method did they employ to come to this false conclusion?
Since all of the surviving men were sons of Noah, the DNA evidence ends and correctly proves that we all descended from Noah. Thus, we are also all descendants of Adam. Interestingly, this means the flood is responsible for killing off all remaining humans that were on the earth that had no soul/spirit.
Here you have strayed back into more Hugh Ross sophistry. The Bible makes no distinction as you and Ross have that there were somehow "men" whom God created who were not in fact fully human, but souless spiritless bodies. Those who are souless and spiritless are better known as "dead." The term inanimate derives from the root "animal" which means "spirit." Yours and Ross's souless and spirit-less persons who have by definition been inanimate are by the same definition dead. To be animated one must have a spirit in order to be so.
