There are good & plenty of reasons to Home School these days.
I’m guessing that the main four reasons why more do not are:

A. Parents are not educated enough on the academics or have forgotten what they used to know.
B. Parents have to work to maintain their standard of living.

C. Parents are aware that they do not have the right temperment to teach anyone, let alone children, who require lots of repetition of lessons. Many parents are afraid to discipline and want to be the child’s ‘Pal’.
This need to be a’Pal or Cool Mom’ syndrome goes double if divorced.
D. Parent doesn’t want to be bothered, and looks forward to child leaving their presence for X number of hours each weekday.

The first one is, IMO, the most common.

I have found in my own school district that the parents are themselves graduates of the school that taught them they are unqualified to teach.

So what do they do ?

Send their kids to the same place where they weren't educated.

I do not have a college degree nor did I obtain my high school diploma while attending public school. I dropped out of school in the 9th grade and opted for an adult education class to get my high school diploma. I would not hire someone with my education background to teach my children. Yet, because of that, I am picky about the source of education materials that my Wife and I make available for them.

"B. Parents have to work ......."

We are blessed to afford a one income family. My wife is a wonderful coach for their success and a guardian if their minds. We work hard to ensure that they are well informed and able to make the best available decision. They understand that when you don't make a decision, you empower other to decide for you. Likewise, they are aware that actions have just as many consequences as inaction.

Takes a lot of patience and consistency... just like being a parent.

This one makes me sad and angry. Children are not pets that you send to a kennel. Yet, some treat the public school system as such. Great way to make kids feel unloved and teachers unappreciated.
