Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem






(Old Testament)

1 Samuel 22





David at Adullam and Mizpah

22 David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father’s household heard about it, they went down to him there. 2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him.

3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?” 4 So he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him as long as David was in the stronghold.

5 But the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the stronghold. Go into the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

Saul made a huge mistake by persecuting David. Soon others realize how wrong this accusation was, and rally to David's cause. Nothing riles people up more than a false accusation!

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem






More and more people rally to David's cause as Saul's false accusations become more evident. At this point, David realizes that not only he himself is in mortal danger, but his aging parents are as well. Saul will stop at nothing to get at him, as we will see in tomorrow's reading.

David shelters his family in Moab, a pagan land and often Israel's enemy. But David's Great-Grandmother, Ruth, was from there. Perhaps David even has relatives that remember the Hebrew Family that once sought refuge in their land.

Saul has completely gone "off-the-rails" by this time, and David was right to be concerned about his family.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

This Bible story is being played out today. It is a prime example of what happens when demons are allowed to take over one’s decisions.
