but also posit it was because they thought it was the “merciful” way to go...they thought they had killed enough even though God had told them what to do.

So you can read minds of people that have been dead for thousands of years ago. Amazing, if true but I think not. In truth you do not know their motive. They could have been tired of killing and therefore gave a half-hearted effort (God is not satisfied with that). But more than likely they saw pretty maidens which inflamed their lust. Or children they wanted. Or slaves. But who knows? They were disobedient and they paid the price.

Read the damn book and think while you do it...if you do, you will find you could have given the real answer which is they decided to not kill the best of the livestock and then claimed they did it so they could have proper offerings to God....no saucy wenches involved unless you are what you say I might think I am....God wanted all temptation removed from the promised land and they did something akin to those below making a golden calf while Moses was on the mountain getting the commandments.
Amazing how many argue points of the Bible w/o bothering to read a bit here and there....makes it so their priests/pastors, etc., can tell them it says all kind of things it doesn’t and they will blindly believe much that isn’t true.
