Russian church leader losing big money over emergence of new local Ukrainian church

The creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in line with canonical principles is one way or another pushing people to get from under of Moscow's influence.

It is not only spiritual support that Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) Kirill is losing as a result of the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, it is also big money, says religious scholar Vita Titarenko. With each community leaving the ROC toward the Orthodox Church of Ukraine she believes Kirill is losing the income which had earlier been receiving from them.

The creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in line with canonical principles is one way or another pushing people to get from under of Moscow's influence and opt for the independent Ukrainian church, according to the scholar.

This is the church "where there is own Metropolitan, where no one prays for aggression, and where they don't sanctify weapons." "Why do you think the ROC is spreading information all the time that the newly-formed Ukrainian church is supposed to bring money to Istanbul? It seems that's the only thing they care about," noted the expert.

“” “” The creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in line with canonical principles””” “

Thanks for a laugh but it is in fact quite sad. Does any Orthodox leader with the exception of Bartholomew of Istanbul agrees with the above statement?

No. This is an ecclesial farce supported by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Ukrainian government, the local Greek Rite Catholic Church, and the CIA.

My take is that a ‘Ukrainian Church’ is nothing but a PR riot for Western consumption on part of Ukrainian government.
I understand how it might look right from a Catholic perspective but it is so contrary to all things Orthodox that it is clear that the whole idea didn’t come from Church itself.

It is great we see the situation along the same lines. At one point I thought my brain developed a conspiracy theory.

I just wonder what Bartholomew thinks he is doing? Does he believe it would elevate him to the status of Orthodox Pope?
Or maybe he was simply bribed into it.

there has been a ukrainian orthodox church for many, many, years (independent of the roc) with churches in the us dating back at least to the 1920s.

That’s a pretty good summary. Three Orthodox Patriarchs and two primates recently concelebrated the Divine Liturgy in Russia where the Ecumenical Patriarch was very glaringly not commemorated in the diptychs. And this was on the Feast of St. Mark of Ephesus! For those not familar with Orthodox Church history, let’s just say that was a warning shot across Bart’s bow.

Those were not, and are not independent Ukrainian churches. They are part of a diocese under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Who when he created this phony church in Ukraine, declined to cede jurisdiction over the American Ukrainian parishes. There is a lot of money that flows from them to Constantinople.

i understand they are under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. but they are not a spawn of the roc, more a brother or perhaps, as my long passed grandmother might say, a bastard cousin. she would also argue with your claim that hers was a phony church.

The Ukrainians are free to cast off yet one more chain from the damned Russians and they’re doing so!

Good for them!

All they have done is cast off the Orthodox Church.

The Orthodox Church in Ukraine has been under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate for centuries. The phony church has been in existence for less than a month. I doubt your grandmother of blessed memory was a member.

Using the same logic US should have had adopted Buddhism and switch to French following declaration of independence.
Just to show limey bastards you mean business.

Nothing at all happening in Ukraine today justifies this rape of Christianity they are into right now.

Their current administration won’t last another year anymore and Orthodoxy exists for two millenia and traditional Ukrainian Church they are destroying is centuries old.

This circus is disgusting to say the least.
