“It is my disappointment and the feeling of many of my colleagues that this has been one of the reasons contributing to a decline in membership and attendance,” Miller said. “The church has not stayed current with the people it serves.”

Yeah. Sure.

Why don't the protestant bishops kick out their liberal schools?

(this question would immediately be asked, and the Catholic church then bashed over and over again, if this thread was about a liberal Catholic university demanding "LGBTQ rights" for their students. But since its a protestant denomination doing that, my post will be the only comment asking that. Hmmm.)

And, she ventured, that’s what John and Charles Wesley, the 18th-century founders of Methodism, would have wanted.

I don’t think so.

“gender identity/expression or sexual orientation,” the statement reads.

Including furries who show up at worship service dressed as a giant fox or cat?

- swingers parties for married couples
- orgies for singles (gay straight and bi on alternating weekends)
- porno screenings at night

well it’s the kind of thing that people wanted in the 60s and 70s.

Unfortunately, for those who have no respect for God’s opinion as expressed through the judgement upon Sodom & Gomorrah, calling evil good & good evil will not deliver from hell.

Yeah! Why doesn’t the church have golden calf making craft groups?!?!? Get with pop culture! What kind of church are you?

I’m Catholic but hang out a lot with a Methodist church that volunteers at Walter Reed.

They are into LGBTQ and illegal aliens. The Pope is pushing for globalism....This ain’t good.

Consulting Scripture to find a defense of homosexual “marriage” is a dead-end of epic proportions.

I don’t have time to consult the infinitely lesser writings of the Wesleys, but I doubt they’d offer any more hope.

Just about every church should consider amending their LGBTQ policies. It’s very simple. If a policy is in conflict with scripture (the literal word of the Bible), it should not be part of church policy.

Yeah let’s just change the Bible to fit the mood of the day that’ll work out real real well! United Methodist have been losing people for years because they keep becoming more and more liberal.

Yeah, the reason the UMC is dying is because homosexuality isn't isn't celebrated enough. Riiiight.

Apparently many in the Methodist Church leadership are on a fast track to Hell, and taking as many as they can with them. It is unwise to teach opposition to God and His Word.

Here is what steams me the most--the claim that the current LGBTQ language hurts attendance.

If you want to argue for a more "modern" "interpretation" of the Bible, then do so. But spare me the stupidity of the argument that changing the UMC's position on homosexuality is going to reverse our declining membership. There is no evidence of this. Every denomination changing its stance is still bleeding membership.

Totally done with the Methodists since they can’t find any Biblical prohibitions against abortion and homosexuality. I guess they don’t want to offend anyone . . . well, they offended me.

That is just an insane, totally anti-historical, anti-biographical comment. The Wesleys would have never approved of lbgtq. Never. The denomination will be decided by end of March. Any plan other than an amicable split will be all out abandonment of historic Christianity.
