Again -
muslims only preserved what interested a few individuals - all the rest they destroyed - most of which had long ceased to exist (by 500 years) before Aquinas arrived, and by 400 years before Averroes arrived.
Most of the known history written by Polybius and many others was destroyed - the list of known destroyed works by muslims would fill a library ... we have only fragments and references remaining.
Thanks to you all for engaging in a discussion ranging from Aristotle to Aquinas and Averroes. Whatever the topic, be modern physics, ancient architecture, or even meideval scholisticism and the impact of Islam, FR always has folk who bring a great deal of knowledge and perspective to the table. Not many places in the "real world" where I could expect to have a discussion around people like Aquinas, Polybius, Maimonides, and Albertus Magnus.
Regarding Polybius, I am not very familiar with his work. I have a passing familiarity with the histories by Herodotus but that's a couple centuries prior to Polybius. Also some familiarity with Josephus' histories too but that's a couple centuries after Polybius. Maybe something I need to explore.
