Years ago, after I reverted to Catholicism after many years, I was on a business trip in SF. My hotel room looked over Nob Hill with Grace Cathedral to my left. Since I had free time in my schedule I thought it would be fun to check out what I thought to be a Catholic cathedral. For a good while after my reversion I could swear I felt the real presence from the tabernacle in Catholic churches. I can’t really describe the feeling well, but it was real. Anyway, I walked over to Grace Cathedral, walked in without looking around, went into the church and kneeled down to pray. Weirdly, I felt nothing. It wasn’t until I got up and walked around that I found out it was an Episcopal cathedral. No tabernacle. No real presence, hence no feeling of the real presence. I know it’s subjective, but it was a strange experience.

The Real Presence is always with you. If you are a saved child of God you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and He is with you always. You don’t need fancy altars, relics, icons or anything else to experience His presence. He even goes with us into hostile territory.
