The Indian government forbids any visitors to the island, and natives routinely greet strangers with violence.

He should have tried somewhere safer, like Pakistan.

He wasn’t “martyred”. That’s an INSULT to Martyrs.

He was however, a self righteous, pompous, arrogant man and now he’s a dead man.

He pi##ed away 50 years of going to places where there would be danger but a CHANCE of surviving and reaching lots of people with the Good Word.

He was TOLD what would happen to him, I’m not QUITE SURE what language he was going to reach them with, and not sure why SO MANY here think they wanted to be bothered.

Maybe we can hire this tribe to work our borders.

Go ahead. Attack. I don’t give a sh.t and you’ll be 4,000 attacks too late.

Never read anything in the Bible that says being an arrogant moron being a good thing.

SO MUCH of the Middle East, Africa, even South America to go and spread the word, and maybe even have a translator accompany you.

But there would be NO FAME in areas where some have been converted already.

PRIDE cometh before a fall.

This time the fall was caused by arrows.

There was a slight outbreak of that attitude here on FR, recently.

I actually expect God to bring something good from this, but in an unexpected way.

Like Salvation for “News Reporters” instead of the natives.

The people of North Sentinel Island are serious about border security, and that is their right.

I believe Commodore Matthew Perry opened Japan because the Japanese were executing shipwrecked sailors. Why not here.

I Question The Wisdom by Trevor Christian Johnson

Missionaries we respect in the future have often been viewed as foolish in the present.

Didn’t Carey have too many marriage struggles to go? I question the wisdom.

Hudson Taylor had weird views on support and funds. I question the wisdom.

David Brainerd was an emotional mess most of the time and drove himself to an early grave. I question the wisdom.

David Livingstone was reckless and drove his men to dangerous lengths. I question the wisdom.

George Stott had one leg and wanted to go to China. What org in their right mind would allow that. I question the wisdom.

“When James Calvert went out as a missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the ship captain tried to turn him back, saying, “You will lose your life and the lives of those with you if you go among such savages.” To that, Calvert replied, “We died before we came here.”” I question the wisdom.

Those foolish missionaries in Ecuador. A frail lady with polio in the mountains of Irian Jaya among the Kimyal who couldn’t even walk right. And now a young man who was an experienced wilderness EMT who was trying to reach tribal peoples in North Sentinel island.

All of these fools. I question the wisdom!

Over and over this week all over the internet, even American Christians degrading this young man who was killed in a good cause, “I question the wisdom,” “I question the wisdom,” “I question the wisdom.”

-—1 Corinthians 4:10: We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.”

-—II Corinthians 12:2, “ For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities....”

——”I am a fool for Christ...whose fool are you?” (Brother Andrew).

From me: Trevor is a missionary sent to the [formerly, I hope] cannibals of Papua, Indonesia. He is well-known for his stance in both spiritual matters and for political issues affecting the Korowai. Trevor has suffered greatly, especially physical illness, in his service. At this moment, he is away from his people recovering from chronic malaria. He longs to return to the work.

Full disclosure: I, also, work on the same island Trevor does. My husband in the early 90s quit his tenured position as a band director. We, along with our 3 children, the youngest was 5 and the oldest 11, went overseas. We have suffered a small amount for the work, including bouts of malaria and dengue fever. I had to med-evac this spring with severe anemia. I went from the plane to the doctor’s office to the hospital. It is worth it all. We can’t wait to return in August 2019.

I think Chau’s plan of contact was foolhardy and ended very predictably, but God will use his death for good, because that is how He rolls.

The vitriol heaped on Christians world-wide will be a wake-up call for those who have been snoozing in the pew.

Also this uncontacted tribe is now on the radar of many and perhaps a better contact plan can be enacted.

Honestly, I find the worlds weird desire to let these people live in a state of raw nature and poverty astounds me. They don’t even have fire or any agriculture.

I think their antipathy towards outsiders suggests a deep and abiding trauma passed on by oral history. Something so powerful still that it overcomes the natural curiosity of adolescent males. Like they are descendants of a wrecked slave ship that carried the remnants of some obliterated tribe from Africa. Otherwise, young men would go exploring.

It’s also occurred to me that they could be living in the hunter/gatherer version of North Korea, controlled by a ruling family, (although that doesn’t fully explain the absence of curious and adventurous teen males).

Or the lifespan there is cruelly short, constantly robbing the tribe of experienced elders, so no progress is ever made (doesn’t explain the absence of curious teens).

I would make contact by floating them coconuts (which was successful in the past) and installing a Jumbotron playing a video on coconut palm agriculture and after a few weeks or months, float them the hand tools and plants to start. Then I’d do the same thing with pineapples, mangos, papaya, what ever a tropical agronomist thinks would grow and doesn’t require fire to cook.

At the same time I would set up listening stations to record every bit of their language and interactions possible to see if the language can be deciphered and learned.

The poor guy wasn’t martyred. Martyred means someone slew you because of your faith.

The Sentinalese had no idea what the guy wanted nor did they care- they would have shot him with the arrow even if he was an atheist, Muslim, Hindu or even a man from a neighboring tribe. They shot him because he was an intruder.

Jesus DID command us to "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) and "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19,20). This missionary was being obedient to God and was a martyr for Christ. I don't expect the lost of the world to understand or appreciate that.

The same thing happened many years ago with a group of missionaries to the Auca Indians of Ecuador. The group including Jim Elliot were also murdered by them. Years later Jim Elliot's wife and several others returned to the village and were successful in leading many to Christ. One of those new believers attended the same Bible college as I did. We never know how the Lord will use us in reaching the world. He wants our obedience and our trust that He will work all things for good. You can read about the Auca Indians and the story of Jim Elliot HERE.

God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to Him.

Apparently our Leftists, whose life ambition is to dictate every action and thought of rednecks, don’t want to push Darwin or Marx on some people. The latter don’t know how lucky they are!

I believe the Apostle Matthew was also martyred bringing the Gospel to India. I don’t know that he knew the native language there either. I’m sure the world called him an arrogant moron too. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Mat 5.11-12

The Indian military should have been sent in to deal with these stone age savages long ago, rather than tolerating “no go” areas in their own country. Why they haven’t done so yet is a mystery, India isn’t as obsessed with political correctness as western countries.
