Heart warming tribute to veterans after mass today

My fellow Catholic Freepers will enjoy this.

After mass this morning our cantor sung the song identified with each branch of the service and veterans from that branch were asked to stand.

There was strong sustained cheering at each one.

We closed with a singing of America The Beautiful and it brought a tear to my eye.

We are new in this parish and never expected such warm friendship.

Thanks to all who served and all those who acknowledged our service.

After mass we met at Applebee's for free meal - great day.

Our priest asked all those who had ever served in any part of the military to stand up and be recognized. I turned my head and looked at all the people behind me standing and they all had appreciative smiles on their faces.

Our Pastor is a Trump supporter behind the scenes. The choir and congregation sang “God Bless America” after Mass to enthusiastic applause.

The very same thing happened at the Mass I attended. It was right before the Mass ended the choir sang a tribute to each of the services and those who served were asked to stand as the their song was sung. I almost cried.

Our Priest had a series of very touching prayers throughout mass and it culminated with all of the veterans standing and being recognized. Father Augustine is a young enthusiastic man from India who I’ve gotten to know well (took him shooting on Friday) so his sincere recognition of the tip of the spear that is American Veterans was profound!

Our priest does not want anything to interfere with the liturgy. And we had rites of initiation for RCIA. Felt bad for Mr. Mercat but otherwise Mass was awesome.

At the end of Mass today, Father had all the vets stand up. We applauded them. We then trooped the Colors, said the Pledge of Allegiance, and Father led us in “God Bless America.” Awesome.

In the prayers of the faithful there were prayers offered for our veterans.
