Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Gospel of John

(New Testament)

John 20

The Purpose of John’s Gospel

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Footnotes:

1. John 20:24 Thomas (Aramaic) and Didymus (Greek) both mean twin.
2. John 20:31 Or may continue to believe

(End of Scripture Passage)

This incident, reported in the Gospel of John, is so true to human nature, and defines the concept of Faith. It is very easy to believe in something one has actually SEEN. It is not so easy to believe in something one has NEVER seen. Yet, the Bible tells us that "we are all given a measure of faith". The term "Doubting Thomas" though, has become an English idiom meaning someone who needs to SEE in order to BELIEVE. That's OK when talking about a deal that's too good to be true, or an alleged Prize, or even a used car that has only 1000 miles on the odometer (REALLY?), but when it comes to The Risen Christ, one does not have to SEE to BELIEVE.
