I see your point, and it introduces another issue - you can only be married to your wife or the Church.
Other denominations make it work i suppose.
I agree with the Abp, homosexuality is killing the Church. The mustard seed parable is coming true - it is a nesting place for crows.
That's the problem. Let's say you're a religious man, but inclined to homosexuality -- even pederasty. Celibacy is one way that such a person might attempt to suppress such urges, and that can make the priesthood attractive.
The problem is if the attempt to suppress such urges with religious faith doesn't succeed....
