Not small. Just look at a list of Cardinals. And they are the cream of the crop. The pope himself seems to refrain from appointing anyone who is normal.
The priesthood may be permanently ruined. Virtually all in it or joining are losers, that is gay — or straight but mediocre, socially inept, not too bright. The priesthood is the haven, the hiding place, for gays (and incompetent straights) to form their own inner sanctum safe from demands of “real” life.
Of course stellar priests are here and there. We have some good priests. But not in numbers and “organized” like lavender mafia.
And I just learned that the priest that converted me 20 years ago is now being accused of inappropriate behavior with a minor.
