John 1

John Testifies About Jesus

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”[f]

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Looking for artwork to illustrate this thread is not always easy. First, there are copyright issues. Certain publishers DO NOT want their images displayed on this PARTICULAR site and the Moderators remove the images before they can cause trouble. Then there are the Companies who want you to pay to use their images, and so deface their samples with a watermark. Then, there are images which are cartoonish, or just plain BAD ART. I avoid those if I can. Finally, there are images that I avoid because they go against my interpretation of the Second Commandment. Pictures of the Historical Jesus standing in the Jordan with His cousin John don't bother me, But a representation of Father God with a long white beard looking down from heaven in that same scene does. Representing the Holy Spirit as a Dove doesn't bother me, but images that give Him feminine qualities, or try to depict Him as a human being REALLY deter me from using that image! There are lots of images and icons depicting today's Scripture Portion, but due to my own personal tastes and restrictions, my illustrations may be a little repetitive today!

We have four eyewitness accounts of this Awesome Event that brings together The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit in one Magnificent Moment. It is impossible to capture that in Art!
