McCarrick was our Archbishop for hears in the Archdiocese of Newark. Now i believe McCarrick was up to no good, but if this kid was 11 at the time of the sexual assault and it continued for 20 years, that would make him 31years old and he was still allowing a priest to abuse him?

Being sexually assaulted as a child tends to screw some people up.

We dont know what possible threats were made if James didnt continue to allow the abuse. Shame and love for ones family are powerful motivators.

The world was turned upside down for him at age 11 and he probably thought this was some kind of love relationship? Adults can be abused. Think of all the women living in abusive marriages. Men can also be abused.

Stockholm syndrome is a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity.[1] These feelings, resulting from a bond formed between captor and captives during intimate time spent together, are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims. Generally speaking, Stockholm syndrome consists of "strong emotional ties that develop between two persons where one person intermittently harasses, beats, threatens, abuses, or intimidates the other."[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome

Once the trauma sets in, it can be hard to get outside of it....some of that for what you stated...."Why am I still allowing this and why am I still afraid to say something?"...
Many homosexuals were terribly abused as children...I am friends with one who is almost 70, says he hasn't had a physical relationship since he was 34, and still goes to therapy...
