Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Some of you know that I have suffered from hearing loss ever since I was a child. I was always being pulled out of class after a routine hearing screening and sent to the Horace Mann School For the Deaf. Then the HMSFTD would determine that I wasn't deaf enough to suit them or require any kind of remediation, and I would be sent back to regular school. This went on for years, even though I was an "A" Student. Of Course, a half-century of Rock 'n' Roll and Harley-Davidsons have made it worse over the years, and there are quite a few stories where a misheard remark has gotten me into trouble. (Before you tell me I should get hearing aids, I do have them, and they were obtained in the most bizarre story of ANY I have ever told you. But that is for another day.)

I met the man who would become my husband at a Chekhov Play at Boston University. We didn't exchange telephone numbers, but agreed to meet after work at Kenmore Square Station, Monday at 6:00PM. Meeting downtown in such a public location was safe for people who didn't even know each other, and we could maybe go out for coffee and a movie, since we were both only 18, so bars were out of the question. OK...so I didn't quite catch his name...it sounded like the name of a popular Hindu god worshiped at airports, but he didn't look Indian to me, but hey...he seemed like a nice enough guy. So, Monday, I got to the station early and waited. And waited, and waited. Over an hour had elapsed. Cell Phones didn't exist. A Pay Phone was useless, because I hadn't quite gotten his last name, so I couldn't call Directory Assistance either. Finally, I was fed up, and took the train home. When I got home I fried a piece of steak and ate it raw, I was so mad. And, of course, the phone did not ring.

The next day, I finished my classes up around 5:00PM, and rather than take the trolley directly home, I walked to Kenmore Station...just in case I hadn't heard correctly. When I got there at 5:30, there was Mike, holding a bouquet of flowers with a grin on his face. He said he had distinctly heard me say TUESDAY, not MONDAY, and, it seems, he suffered from hearing impairment as well!

We went to Cambridge and saw a rather silly cult-classic called "The King of Hearts" which played every night at the same movie house for five years straight, so on our wedding anniversaries in the subsequent years, we went to Central Square to see it again.

Imagine if I had not gone back to the station on Tuesday. Imagine if I had still been furious at Mike for letting me down on Monday. Our lives would probably never had intersected again. Peter thought this was the case with him. He had let Jesus down in the worst way. But, here He was, sharing grilled fish with him on the beach, and instructing him to "FEED MY SHEEP".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance..” Psalm 33 NASB

God Bless America!

I can just image the emotions Peter felt. And our Lord did not throw him under the bus. But used him. Mightily.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem and for revival in our beloved America.
