[Catholic Caucus] Tom Evans and Kate James - (Real) Catholicism is With You!

The law of the Lord is without spot, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones (Psalm 18:8).

This is an important message which we hope will soon reach Tom, Kate and their supporters.

It is already clear from the ministrations of Fr. Gabriele Brusco, the practical assistance provided by Catholics from England and abroad, the many exchanges on social media, the prayers of Catholics last week outside of Alder Hey and all around the world, and the various articles which we have ourselves posted here, that grassroots Catholics everywhere wholeheartedly support you. Their support is rooted in authentically Catholic principles of morality, justice and social action.

In addition to all of this, we wish to share the fact that, during recent days, we have heard the communicatons of a good number of Catholic priests, from around the UK and overseas, which affirm key principles relating to what has happened to you and to your innocent little son, Alfie.

These principles include:-

1). God alone is the real arbiter of life and death. It follows from this that men should not attempt to usurp power over this mystery for themselves.

2). Parents have natural, God-given rights relating to the care of their own children.

3). If parents were to deny oxygen, food or water to any of their children, then the state could legitimately intervene to save the child; but not in the opposite case to actively deny the parents who are trying to provide oxygen, food and water.

4). Oxygen, food and water are not to be thought of as medicine which may be removed in certain cases; but as the very essentials of life, which are genuinely included in palliative care.

5). When democratic societies no longer see themselves in reference to God, and democracy is no longer open to the support of grace, or the guidance of natural law morality, then it descends into a state of tyranny.

6). It was the duty of your local bishop to defend you and your child Alfie in particular, and these principles in general.

7). That, in the end, the love of God in Christ outshines all evil, darkness and all cultures of death; and that the answer to defeating injustice and a Culture of Death is to grow in His Love and grace, whilst also working to care for the vulnerable and to introduce more just laws for a Culture of Life in the future.

In common with countless Catholics around the world, we at Torch of The Faith have been utterly scandalized by the fact that, although bishops from Italy, Poland and Rio de Janiero tried to help, Tom, Kate, Alfie and their supporters - and by extension all who will now find themselves in similar situations in the future - were denied suitable support from their own local Catholic hierarchy in their struggle for justice for their little son Alfie.

Again, united with countless Catholics around the globe, we have been additionally scandalized that statements from the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales were able to be used - as happened on Good Morning TV - to attempt to undermine the case as it unfolded.

Furthermore, with countless Catholics everywhere, we have been scandalized that the good Fr. Gabriele Brusco, who was providing such sound spiritual support and wisdom to the family, was cruelly removed at such a key moment, by a remarkable combination of episcopal meddling and hospital banishment.

To Tom, Kate and your many supporters, we can only renew our sincere apology as Catholics, in common with many priests and lay people at the grassroots level, that this has happened to you.

In truth, these things cannot be seen in isolation from a wider spiritual battle which has been raging in the Church for at least five decades now, but which has much deeper roots, and which issues particularly in the infiltration of non-Catholic ideologies into Church circles, and the rise to power of men within the Church who offer too little evidence of having the Catholic Faith, nor even of holding to the basic ethical principles of the divine and natural law.

Please know that this is not at all representative of real Catholicism as found expressed and made fecund within the authentic living framework of Scripture, Tradition and Magisterium.

Please be assured that you have the love of God, the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, the true teachings of the Catholic Church and the sincere prayers of many grassroots Catholics all around the world on your side.

And know, too, that your witness to parental rights and for little Alfie has inspired the world.

Above all, may it comfort you to know that Alfie, an innocent boy who received the graces of Baptism and Confirmation, now lives in a high state of Glory with God in Heaven.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary  be your consolation, peace and protection in the days ahead. God bless you.

The kid was abandoned by the local Bishop and UK Catholics in general.
