Vatican Archbishop, Move On From The Ban On Contraception

Pro-Gay Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, the president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, has suggested to “re-read” [meaning: abrogate] the encyclical Humanae Vitae (1968) in the light of issues like genetic modification.

According to The Tablet (April 11), Paglia wants to move the focus away from the question whether married couples may use artificial contraception, “We have to widen the horizon.”

Paglia admitted that Paul VI's focus was on contraception but he believes that today this question has become "secondary.”

The birthrate of all [decadent] Western countries has reached a level that puts in question the future of these populations.

From the link:

In August of 2016 Pope Francis moved [pro-gay] [anti-Humanae Vitae] Paglia from the Pontifical Council for the Family to the presidency of the Pontifical Academy for Life, as well as of the Pontifical Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, two organizations founded by Pope St. John Paul II to defend the sanctity of human life and family values.

I'm going to the Knoxville Diocese Catechetical Day today. I'm (on my own) going to try to get signers for the "Statement" in defense of Catholic Doctrine that Burke, Brandmuller and Companions came out with last Saturday in Rome.

I don't know why I'm so nervous about this.

Pray for peace in Syria.

Please pray for me. And above all, for Pope Francis.

Looking forward to your report as we pray (and suffer) for you.

And we will remember Syria and Pope Francis too!

Well, FReeper friends, not much to immediately report, though we must be confident that the Holy Spirit uses mustard seeds and tiny "yes"es and inscrutable ways to do His will.

I handed out only about 25 leaflets, and go no verbal response from anyone, other than the usual "Oh, OK. Thanks" that people will say upon receiving a holy card or a Splenda packet. I just asked people to read it, and, if impelled by the love of Christ, to sign it and return it.

Oh, wait. One guy DID sign it, but he was a man who had no idea that "the situation" was going on. "I get it that this is doctrine, but what's the problem? Why do you need signatures or whatever?" I gave him a super-abbreviated summary of "the situation", and explained that we can't say that a consummated valid marriage is "dissoluble" in the full sense of the word unless we ditch what was taught to us by Christ in Matthew, Mark and Luke, and repeated in Paul in Corinthians. That would mean treating Jesus' words as just another opinion and not as a revelation of saving truth.

"Oh, OK, I get it," he said. And he signed it.

I made sure the conference speakers got copies, and they impressed me as solid Catholics (from Aquinas College and the Dominican Sisters of Nashville.) So maybe I'll hear back from them.

Well, we plant the seed and God gives the growth.
