Andrew Cuomo forces Fidelis Care "into 'voluntarily' writing billion-dollar checks"
ALBANY, N.Y. (ChurchMilitant.com) - The governor of New York is going after a Catholic charitable organization, forcing it to foot the bill for the state.
In an op-ed published Monday in the Wall Street Journal, Bill Hammond, director of health policy at the Empire Center, criticizes the deal orchestrated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Good Friday between Fidelis Care, a Catholic nonprofit healthcare plan, and Centene Corporation, a leading government-sponsored healthcare company.
"Gov. Andrew Cuomo has a disturbing new way to raise revenue: using government muscle to squeeze private organizations into 'voluntarily' writing billion-dollar checks," said Hammond.
Fidelis and Centene are paying the state $2 billion over four years following "a three-month pressure campaign by Mr. Cuomo, including overt and implied threats to seize the funds, block the sale or both," which began with Fidelis' unsettled sale to Centene for $3.75 billion in September.
A self-professed Catholic, Cuomo said that the state was entitled to $3 billion of Fidelis' earnings since the Catholic non-profit received most of its income from state-sponsored programs, including "Medicaid managed care, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan, as well as Medicare Advantage and commercial ObamaCare coverage."

Cuomo probably didn’t get his cut so this is his revenge.
