My 18 year old son is this close to getting one.
I asked him to think long and hard before he permanently marks his body. Sigh. Cant legally stop him.
“All nipples nourish you, the first one gives life”
RE: No way to know; the Bible doesnt address it.
We know by implication.
OLD TESTAMENT:
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD (Leviticus 19:28, English Standard Version ).
NEW TESTAMENT:
Jesus said:
17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-20 ).
Therefore, we can conclude that Jesus NEVER HAD A TATTOO. Otherwise, He would have violated the Levitical Law.
RE: How would we know?
See Post #65 above.
They are ugly. Why someone would want to be disfigured like that is a total mystery.
Are you sure?
or perhaps this:
Perhaps a few accessories may be needed too:
Any of the three would be a vast improvement, dontcha think? 8>)
This false prophetess needs to read the Bible. Leviticus 19:28 is still in effect. (Hebrews 9 indicates which ordinances are no longer in effect.)
The only one who may mark our bodies is the Lord himself. The beast will mark those who swear fealty to him and they will earn damnation in so doing.
Jesus often tells us we should keep his commandments. And Paul also echoes this.
Doing something just to make a group of people angry is hardly Christian, IMHO. That makes her a bit of a smart alec and is hardly acting in love.
“Radio London reminds you: go to the church of your choice.”
How very Christian in her motivation.
Thank you for this. The Bible literate should already know this. I don’t know who this Joyce Meyer is but she might include the Bible in her reading library instead of Cosmopolitan or whatever tabloid is in the checkout line.
To me tatoos are not like clothes, jewelry or makeup, they are permanent physical alterations of the body. That is like “adding” to the body, and to me THAT is not respecting of G-d who gave you that body. No, that is not out of scripture; it’s out my thinking derived from my reading and experience.
Ban on Tattoos and marks is Old Testiment, That was supersceded by Jesus and the New Testiment. At his time, they were marks of other religions (Mithas demanded an “X” branded on the Forehead, Isis tattoo crosses, etc...)
“Christians are not under Old Testament Law.”
Jesus said He came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. so the law is still in play according to what Jesus said.
It’s just, for a person who has made Jesus their LORD, He lives in them in a way that fulfills the law and they act accordingly. Those (believes and non believers) without making Jesus their LORD don’t have the fulfillment of the law by Jesus working in them.
Jesus was the only one who was able to keep the whole Torah, so the answer is none.
Leviticus 19
28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.
