It’s absolutely infuriating to read this sort of thing. The many Catholics (including bishops, all the way to the very top) who believe that jettisoning Church teachings on sexual morality is some sort of recipe for ecclesiastical success and relevance conveniently ignore the fact that this approach has ALREADY BEEN TRIED by the liberal protestant churches of Europe and North America and has been a complete and total failure. I mean, for cryin’ out loud, if the Church of Sweden or Presbyterian Church USA were packin’ in the crowds with lax teaching on sexuality, it wouldn’t make it right but it would at least make it understandable that some Catholics would want to copy of it. As it is, though, it’s like a retailer saying, ‘Hey, I’ve got a great idea, let’s copy the business plan of Montgomery Wards!”

Fools and knaves in charge of the Church. There is no longer any human ground for optimism. But somebody once said that Hope begins where optimism ends.

If we know Who holds our Hope.
