In honor of St. Patricks Day, this ancient Irish tune,
also known as Slane, has two known hymn lyrics, the more familiar
Be Thou My Vision and also the hymn below:
Click to listen:
Lord of All Hopefulness
Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy
Whose trust, ever child-like, no care could destroy
Be there at out waking and give us, we pray
Your place in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day
Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe
Be there at our labors and give us, we pray
You strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day
Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace
Your hands swift to welcome, Your arms to embrace
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray
Your Love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day
Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm
Whose voice is contentment, Whose presence is balm
Be there at sleeping, and give us, we pray
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day

Just sayin'. Yesterday I substitute taught . . .and believe me St. Patrick's Day was anything but about St. Patrick. The mystical, magical leprechaun was the big highlight. The day before in the Jr. High the focused literature story was about Arachne and Athena. To jog everyone's memory. . .which I don't think I learned in the first place, Goddess Athena turned Arachne into a spider. "I have heard it said that all the spiders which have been in the world since then are the children of Arachne. Perhaps Arachne still lives and spins and weaves; and the very next spider that you see may be she herself." Just harmless mythology?" If only they would give equal time to Jesus!!!!!!!!
