[Catholic Caucus] A New Assault on ‘Humanae Vitae’ Begins

The age-old use of proportionalism came to the fore at a recent Vatican conference on Pope Paul VI’s 50-year-old encyclical and the apostolic exhortation ‘Amoris Laetitia.’

Father Maurizio Chiodi, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, recently gave a speech at the Jesuit-run Gregorian University in Rome defending the use of contraception.

Father Chiodi’s address, entitled “Rereading Humanae Vitae in the Light of Amoris Laetitia,” was given at a conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the publication of Humanae Vitae (The Regulation of Birth). Does this portend a doctrinal push similar to what we’ve seen on the matter of Communion for the divorced and civilly remarried? If we look at the speech in the light of two other recent Vatican events, the answer is unavoidable.

The first is the revelation that Pope Francis has established a new birth-control commission on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Humanae Vitae. The commission’s charge is to “reinterpret” the encyclical’s teaching “in the light of Amoris Laetitia.” Heading the four-man commission is Msgr. Gilfredo Marengo, a bitter critic of Paul VI’s great encyclical. In 2015, in the magazine Vatican Insider, Msgr. Marengo suggested “abandoning a conception of doctrinal patrimony of the Church as a closed system, impermeable to questions and provocations of the here and now.”

From what he said later, we see he includes within this “closed system” the teaching of Humanae Vitae. In an address in March 2017, entitled “Humanae Vitae and Amoris Laetitia,” Msgr. Marengo stated:

“Every time the Christian community falls into error and proposes models of life derived from too abstract and artificially constructed theological ideals, it conceives its pastoral action as the schematic application of a doctrinal paradigm.”

The hypocrite, Francis, has promised he will "canonize" Paul VI this year; all the while attacking Paul VI's "Humane Vitae".

The main takeaway from Fides et Ratio is that learning how to think clearly, with the Church, in a mature and well-informed fashion, is vital. It’s every bit as crucial as feeling our religious convictions deeply. Sentiment isn’t enough, and that directly affects how we understand the role of conscience.

Christian faith is more than good will and kind intentions. Conscience is more than our personally sincere opinions. A healthy conscience needs a strong formation in the commonly held truths of the Catholic community. Without it, conscience can very quickly turn into an alibi machine. The world is a complicated place. It requires sound Catholic reasoning skills rooted in the teaching of the Church.

Francis is a radical environmentalist.
Their basic belief is that Earth’s #1 problem is that it has too many people.

I suspect he is more loyal to that belief than to the Bible or Catechism, so I feat that day is coming.

You can’t have the full blessing of homosexual behavior and unions and even sacramental marriage for same sex couples unless HV falls.

Separating the unitive and procreative acts of marriage is essential to recognizing unions which by their very nature are sterile (notice I do not write from medical problems or age). The evil of homosexual acts are not just because of the physical wrongness of them but because they deny the very nature of God Himself as the first person in the Holy Trinity.

This is more than a threat to the consistent teaching on faith and morals but is upon closer examination blasphemy.
