Ontario Court Forces Christian Pro-Life Doctors to Refer Patients for Euthanasia

TORONTO, January 31, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – An Ontario Court ruled today that doctors who oppose euthanasia must nevertheless act contrary to their beliefs and refer patients making a euthanasia request to a physician who will end their lives.

Critics say the ruling puts physicians in an “impossible position” and has ramifications for Charter rights of freedom of religion and conscience for all Ontario citizens.

Three justices of the Ontario Superior Court unanimously agreed Wednesday that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) policy requiring doctors to “effectively” refer patients for medical practices they conscientiously object to — notably euthanasia and abortion — does, in fact, violate their Charter right to religious freedom.

But the court ruled that in light of the goal of “ensuring access to health care” the CPSO effective referral policy presents "reasonable limit on religious freedom, demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.”

An effective referral is one to an accessible colleague who is willing to provide the morally objectionable “procedure.”

Likewise, the CPSO policy requesting conscientiously objecting physicians to commit euthanasia or abortion themselves in unspecified “emergency” situations is also reasonable, the judges held.

The 46-page decision, written by Justice Herman Wilton-Siegal in concurrence with Justices Richard Lococo and Wendy Matheson, held that “the evidence in the record establishes a real risk of a deprivation of equitable access to health care, particularly on the part of the more vulnerable members of our society, in the absence of the effective referral requirements.”

Nope. Sorry. Courts are requiring Doctors to commit a sin. That is NOT ok. What if the Doctors just quit - that could have an impact on everyone else’s health care could it not?

Sick and tired of people all over the world attacking Christian beliefs and morality, and getting by with it. Creeping Satanism that’s a good name for it.

I wonder if there is anyway the doctors could just pretend to be helping, and then just shrug when the Euthanasia fails?

Still, it’s way past time for Churches to begin to really stand up against this stuff.

It’s been going on for decades. 99% of Canadian judges occupy the same ideological space as the California Democratic Party.

Just another symptom of Canada’s infection with social justice.

Dr. Jordan Peterson and Dr. Gad Saad discussed how the Ontario law society not only made diversity training that was full SJW required continuing education but tried to say “if you want to keep your law license, you have to file a statement about how you support social justice” with the possibility you could have the law license revoked if you refuse AND revoked if you file a “I agree with social justice” statement and then act contrary to the statement.

In both the U.S. and Canada, education and psychology are dominated by liberal authoritarians. Want to become a teacher? Better pass all the disposition tests that you totally agree with modern diversity mandates.

Want to be a psychologist? You aren’t allowed in several states to offer counseling for transgenderism other than “here are the drugs and surgery plans” or counseling to fight unwanted same sex attraction.

They’re certainly discriminating against conservatives in admissions to graduate programs.
