VENTURA, Calif. --An iconic cross at Ventura park is still standing tall despite the Thomas Fire ravaging the area.
The Serra Cross, which has stood on the site since World War II, is well known to the local community and has been the backdrop for thousands of weddings.
Rumors of the cross burning down flooded social media on Tuesday. The rumors were easy to believe, since power lines and everything else around the cross at Grant Park were destroyed.

I’m shocked that there’s a cross standing anywhere in California. Half the population must be offended to the point of PTSD. I’m sure the ACLU will get right on it.
I guess this is one cross the ACLU would love to see burning!
Now that it is well known that it is still standing I bet it will be gone within a year.
God works miracles, no?
Praise the Lord
Of course this means the aclu etc will now try to do what no wild fire can do in 10...9...8..7...6...
Isn’t working for my computer.
Great story. We were just there 3 weeks ago, at sunset. A wedding was taking place. It’s a beautiful view of the city of Ventura, the coast south to Oxnard and north towards Santa Barbara, with the Channel Islands in the west. Note that the news report is from Dec 6, four days ago. The fire has increased since then from 65,000 acres to 230,000.
Was just in the area south of there, we could see smoke from the fire rising like an atomic-bomb mushroom cloud. Fortunately, the smoke is (mostly) blowing out to sea, it seems.
My mailbox is coated with ash - cars too. Just heard a car guy on the radio say to either replace all car filters or shake them out, otherwise ash and soot may get into the engine.
Glad the cross is still standing!!
My daughter lives in Ventura, I’ve been up there where the cross is many times. Tuesday that’s one of the first things my grandson told me, the cross got black but it’s still standing! There has been a cross on that hill for over 200 years.
Cross survives wildfires but does not survive ACLU, news at 11.
Yes, He does.
Years ago I was working at an Automotive Repair Shop. One day a Tow Truck pulled in with a full sized Chevy P/U on the flatbed. There had been an engine fire that engulfed the whole truck. Several of Us went to look at it and as I looked in the passenger side window I saw a Bible on top of the center console. It was scorched all over the outside, I picked it up and opened it up.
Not one letter of the Word was burned or even browned. NOT ONE BIT OF THE PRINT!!!
I kept that Bible for years and it got stolen one day. Id like to think that who ever stole it was in bad shape and needed that Bible more than I did.
Never underestimate the power of The Father.

Good story.
Wow .......thanks for sharing that with us my friend.
Thanks for posting completes the story
St. Serra put the cross on the hill in 1782. it has been replaced many times over the years but still a popular place to view the city of Ventura. It is owned by a church group today. It stands, scorched but still standing tall—a symbol of the strenth of the people of Ventura, California.
