As E. Michael Jones documents in his 1999 study, "Carl Rogers and the IHM nuns," even before the end of the Second Vatican Council, it seemed.....

Oh, my, what a tragedy is outlined in the article. As California went, so went the nation, it seems. All Christians must reassert the primacy of God as the transcendent moral authority. And so must all Americans, if we are to remain a Constitutional nation Under God.

Humanistic psychology tore through the convents in the 1960's - 70's. Hit them like the plague, emptied them out and killed them. Literally tens of thousands of women left their missions as educators and healers. Sisters went from over 180,000 (1965) to about 55,000 (today). Present average age something like 75.

The splendid, Christ-honoring institutions set up by our sainted 19th century nun-foundresses bit the dust. Catholic schools by the hundreds closed or went secular; used-to-be Catholic women's colleges merged with the men's colleges and set up secular boards of incorporation. Look up "Land 'o Lakes Declaration" -- it was set in stone by 1967. Catholic hospitals --- Kyrie eleison 40x.

Can it change? It can. But I expect it will have to spend a season in the grave.
