I do not trust this man. He is not a man of God. What he comes out with proves that.

Frankly that ship sailed when we started accepting Anglican and Eastern Rite Priests and inviting them to bring their wives and families with them.

Won’t happen.

Won’t happen.

You never know with the Francis. I heard that same phrase said about Holy Communion for persistent adulterers, womyn deacons and reversing Humane Vitae. The first of the above has already been accomplished.

Francis is opening all types of pandora's boxes.

I can’t believe any Catholic can sit here and write “won’t happen” when we keep seeing that whatever “won’t happen” actually does happen.

By what logic does one outside God's natural order of things - "A man will cleave to his wife....." make the best anything?

The Church pretty much took a vote when they decided to require singleness/celibacy instead of following scripture. If they did the same today, you'd require homosexuals/lesbians/trans/whatever in equal numbers as priests. Who knows - with Francis in there, you might be on the way.

The Catholic Church is not, and never has been, a democracy.

You are correct - the policies/requirements have been changed from time to time at the whim of some of the "elder statesmen/Popes". Nothing Biblical required it but some thought they needed to "elevate" some of them in the eyes of the laity by making them seem "special".

Some fascinating reading if one cares to delve into the history of the non-marriage/celibacy platforms and how they changed almost whimsically over the centuries.

It is not true that restricting the priesthood to unmarried men causes the molestation of adolescent boys, or other, less common, forms of sex abuse.

It IS true that the policy of forbidding marriage with women to priests caused an exodus of normal men during a period of time that glorified sexual self-expression, with the result that the balance of normal men to homosexual men in the priesthood was upset.

The very widespread phenomenon of priests marrying nuns after 1965 was, I think, not understood correctly, and the results have been bad ones.

Pending a counter-revolution in sexual morality, or the extinction via voluntary sterility of the whole European people, allowing married (to women) male priests is probably necessary and on the whole a good thing.
