[Catholic Caucus] PRO-GAY PRIEST TO SPEAK IN DIOCESE OF ORANGE, CALIFORNIA
Church Militant ^ | September 18, 2017 | Trey Elmore

Pro-gay Jesuit Fr. Greg Boyle is speaking at a diocesan function for the Diocese of Orange, shepherded by Bp. Kevin Vann. Boyle is a vocal supporter of so-called same-sex marriage as well as women priests. The Diocese's Institute for Pastoral Ministry is hosting a Diocesan Ministries Celebration scheduled for October 14.

Church Militant reached out to the Institute for Pastoral Ministry for comment and has received no response. In April, Church Militant published an episode of The Vortex, pointing out Fr. Boyle's record of contradicting the dogmatic teachings of the Church on sexual morality.

Father Boyle said in an interview published on YouTube by LifeSiteNews in 2013, "Does God feel like same-sex marriage could it happen, I don't think anybody who has a connection to God, and God's understanding and depth of compassion who's going to say no." He remarked that his view was contrary to Church teaching, which he referred to as "the party line."

On women priests, Fr. Boyle went on to say,"Instead of saying, 'I'm frightened' for the Church to say, 'I'm frightened that women will be ordained,' that's honest, say that, but don't say it's a grave sin because that's nonsense."

Church Militant has reported on Fr. Boyle's various speaking engagements with Catholic institutions, including a 2013 appearance at Catholic Charities, as well as the archdiocese of Los Angeles' annual Religious Education Congress.

In March, the University of Notre Dame announced that Fr. Boyle would be receiving Notre Dame's Laetare Medal. He was also inducted into the California Hall of Fame. These various awards have been in recognition of Fr. Boyle's work with his organization Homeboy Industries, which was created to minister to youth involved in gangs in Los Angeles.

In May, Fr. Boyle gave the commencement address at Notre Dame after receiving the Laetare Medal.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered (CCC 2357). On women's ordination, in his 1994 Apostolic letter, Ordinato Sacerdotalis, Pope St. John Paul II defined that women could not be ordained as priests.

"Wherefore, in order that all doubt may be removed regarding a matter of great importance, a matter which pertains to the Church's divine constitution itself, in virtue of my ministry of confirming the brethren  Lk 22:32) I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church's faithful."

The diocese of Orange where Fr. Boyle is speaking is also where Christ Cathedral Cultural Center hosted a "migrant Stations of the Cross," and whose bishop, Kevin Vann told his parishes and schools in his diocese to not comply with ICE officers.

The diocese's Office of Life, Justice and Peace is a member organization of the Global Catholic Climate Movement, an organization that urges its followers to "Pray for and with creation, live more simply, advocate to protect our common home."
