Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

Hebrews 4 (New Testament)

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[f] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Our Father,
Thank You For Your Provision and for Your Grace.

Everlasting, Immortal, Eternal, and Infinite,
We tremble in Awe as we Behold your Wonder and Glory.
The Angels Surround your throne
And sing of Your Excellence Day and Night.
The whole world is Full of Your Glory
Thank you Father, For letting us know You.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

When I first started this Thread, over seven years ago, I mainly stuck with what Christians refer to as "The Old Testament". This was because it was primarily to pray for Israel, and I wanted all FReepers to want to come here to pray. As it developed into a more Study/Devotional Thread, however, it became obvious that the "Old" and "New" Testaments are so interwoven and connected that there is really no division between them.

The extreme opposite happened on a different thread, when a certain religious leader called Our President "Unchristian" because he wanted to build a Wall. I sallied forth into the fray, quoting Deuteronomy, Joshua, and Nehemiah, showing that Ancient Boundary markers and Defensive Walls were Scriptural. I was rapped for quoting the "Old Testament" in an argument about "what is unchristian". (sigh)

The Author of the Book of Hebrews did a much better job of reconciling the "Old" and "New" Testaments better than my wildest dreams could ever cook up. While Paul taught of the relationship between Law and Grace, the Writer of Hebrews tackles the Patterns, Blueprints, Tabernacle, Priesthood, The Temple, and the Ark of the Covenant in one very deep, complex, and spiritual Work. The Author even brings in the Mysterious Figure of Melchizedek, who was a King and Priest encountered by Abraham after a victorious battle.

While the Gospels and Epistles have the "feel" of Narrative Prose, the Book of Hebrews, with its numerous "OT" references and mystical language, has the "feeling" of the Poetry of Psalms or Prophets.

In this brief verse, the Writer compares Jesus to the Old Testament High Priest who made offerings on behalf of the People. Aaron, if you recall, had to atone for his own sins before approaching the Holy of Holies, and even then, wore little bells on his robe so that he could be dragged out (presumably dead)if he approached in an unworthy manner. The Writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus the Messiah was without sin. However, He was not just some kind of esoteric spiritual character who had never suffered temptation or pain...indeed, He was subjected to all manner of temptation, and all manner of suffering, so that His vicarious Atonement was for all of us, no matter what we have gone through. Because of this, He has total EMPATHY with our failings, and is gracious and loving to forgive.

We will not be studying the Book of Hebrews in Depth, but I do recommend it. We will, however, pick up the parts that are a continuation of the Tabernacle, The Ark of the Covenant, and the Temple, and discover that the two parts of the Bible aren't so different after all.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

The Lord is a hedge, protecting us from the arrows of the evil one. Nehemiah rebuilt the Wall protecting Jerusalem as the first act in restoring Israel.
The wall has doors, great, huge, welcoming doors, allowing all who seek refuge to come and ask for asylum. The wall keeps out those who come to steal our riches without consideration.
Violating our laws is not an act of humility, nor is it to be treated with kindness. Immigrants are welcome and ask, not demand or sneak, but act with honor.

Yes, indeed. I agree with you about LEGAL Immigration. As it says in the Torah, (Leviticus 13)

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Also, in the very Book we are looking at right now, we are told in Hebrews 13:

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

I don't see any conflict between those verses and the the concept of protecting oneself and one's family from invaders with evil intent or from lawbreakers who use our Faith against us when making their "demands".

God Bless America!

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

EEING then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Joining in prayer. God bless.

(Thank you, ML, for these daily lessons. Have learned a lot for someone who never studied the Bible growing up in Italy. Over there, only those who enter the seminary study it)
