The group has refused to reverse its decision to allow euthanasia in its hospitals
The Belgian Brothers of Charity have defied the Pope and announced they will continue offering euthanasia at their hospitals despite being ordered to stop.
The group said in a statement that it continues to stand by its vision statement on euthanasia for mental suffering in a non-terminal situation and that they emphatically believe the practice is compatible with Catholic teaching.
The group also claimed the decision had come about starting from the Christian frame of thought and that they always take into account the shifts and evolutions within society.
Last month, Pope Francis approved a Vatican demand that Brothers must stop offering euthanasia by the end of August.

Let’s pray Pope Francis puts these “Brothers” and their institution under interdict -— like he threatened to do to a whole Diocese in Africa where there was opposition to one of his episcopal appointments.
wow!
how tragic... euthanasia??? in a Catholic hospital?
in “non-terminal cases” no less!?
tragic tragic tragic!
Yes, let’s hope so. If he’s unwilling to draw the line on this, we’re in even worse trouble than I thought. When I first saw this story a few weeks ago, I shook my head at the whole “stop by the end of August” thing. It’s like, shouldn’t it have been ‘stop playing Dr Kervorkian IMMEDIATELY, guys’ rather than ‘okay, fellas, you can finish off this month’s hit list, but then no more’? Seriously?
Murder murder murder. They have completely lost their way.
It worse than we could have imagined even a year ago. It’s a nightmare.
agreed!
killing people, and ESPECIALLY “Non-terminal cases”
is
murder, pure and simple
we agree
Prayers up for Holy Mother Church.
I was shocked to learn that the Pope was coming out against something BAD. Usually, he just goes against everything GOOD. It’s a step in the right direction, but probably not meaningful in the long run.
