On the contrary, things add up quite nicely for Joel Osteen.

The place flooded when it was the Compaq Center and the Rockets played there. It probably flooded from underneath. Those pictures are fodder for the Osteen haters, but they prove nothing.

He had offered the second floor, which was not flooded, as shelter, but was told it wasn’t needed — especially since it doesn’t have showers. However, they were using it as a distribution center.

When the shelters filled up and Lakewood was needed, it was used as shelter.

Which will only make the Osteen haters hate him even more.

I knew his Dad, John Osteen real well...

John would have been asking from the first day what he could do for people...he would have thrown open the doors and invited whomever would to come in...

Josh is not his Dad...

> They would, however, allow the church to become an emergency shelter if all of the area shelters were filled. <

Well, that’s mighty nice of them. Sort of like a lifeguard saying “Give me a holler, but only if all the other lifeguards are busy.”

He is just a pauper compared to our elected officials. To bad these detractors are not helping out instead of tearing down.

It doesn’t add up because Osteen was told there would be no ‘maff’ in pastoring.

Joel Osteen’s thinking “if you give a man a fish he eats for a day. Lock your megachurch during a huge storm, teach a man how to be a fish.”

I’m no fan of his. But also don’t understand all the Osteen bashing. Is he obligated to turn his place into another Superdome, and incur lots of damage, just to make his critics happy???

I’m no fan of Osteen, but this whole story is ridiculous, like fake news.

His church was flooded, and pretty much unusable as a ‘shelter’ — there were thousands of really nice houses around which would have made much better shelters than some mega-church where half the bathrooms were under water and they had no sleeping facilities.

So they were storing stuff for supplies, offering help, and telling people how to find help, and offered the facility as damaged as it was to the emergency ops if they wanted to use it.

So, ask yourself, of all the churches, civic buildings, schools, lecture halls, and other facilities, why is this ONE facility hte one that is all over facebook being attacked for not being a shelter?

Clearly, it’s a combination of those who don’t like Osteen, and those who don’t like religion at all.

Meanwhile, the Houston Methodist Training Center wasn’t opened as a shelter. In fact, the list of shelters is pretty small. And doesn’t include the Mayor’s house.

Not a church, wanted to keep business clean and maximize profits. Should lose all non-profit status and protections.

Whatever one thinks of Joel Osteen remember he doesn’t force anyone to give a dime whereas the Federal or State Govt can legally extort your tax money or else take portions or all you have.

the church is the old Compaq Center which is where the Houston Rockets used to play... it was built and finished in 1975 by the city so they should know the property well

and would know what its suitable for or not suitable for...and supposedly was listed as a place unfit for floods relief as it tends to be in a low area and flood

how stupid would it be to evacuate flood victims to a place right in the middle of downtown Houston in to a place that tends to flood...

you would not want people isolated in the city center instead of getting people outside the city

it could of been another Superdome disaster... that was the primary problem with the Superdome that couldn’t get supplies into get into it as it was right in downtown surrounded by all the disaster

Makes no difference what Osteen said or did, or the precise moment he said it. Don't get hung up on that !

The fact of the matter is that the ravening-mad media is looking for ANYONE to blame during this Texas/Louisiana deluge time....it's having trouble pinning anything concrete on the President or FEMA....so anyone else will do in the vacuum.

Who better than a white, wealthy, southern, Christian evangelist to strike out at with all the media venom it can muster ???

Osteen fits the above five media enemies in all categories...i.e..... white, male, rich, Christian and an EVANGELIST (horrors!)

I watched an entire sermon from this guy once. It was all about seeking God as a means to wealth. His favorite bible verse seems to be:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.--Jesus from Mathew 6:33 NIV

But as long as luxury and a miraculous cruise to Easy Street is what was in one's mind when they toss more than they can afford into the collection plate, they are not seeking first the Kingdom of God. For the sake of Joel and those who are fooled by him, I hope they read the rest of Mathew 6 and takes it to heart.

Man, that is a real racist website.

The only motive they have is hating Trump, White people and Christians who they undoubtedly lump in with Catholics too.

Just saying

As a group of religious-minded thinkers, we should be more concerned about what he’s teaching a large group of Christians each day.

For starters, given most of his services’ attendees are Houstonians, how does he explain this bad fortune? I mean, he says belief in God and Osteen’s positive “message” will bring you wealth and friends... Not trying to be snarky... Curiousity here.... Someone needs to ask him...
