Draining the Pontine Marshes

When Argentina was on the verge of redefining marriage in 2010, then-cardinal Bergoglio blasted out with all his canons (pun intended) on full enfilade.

In the coming weeks, the Argentine people will face a situation whose outcome can seriously harm the family[.] ... At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children. At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God's law engraved in our hearts. ...

Let us not be naive: this is not simply a political struggle, but it is an attempt to destroy God's plan. It is not just a bill (a mere instrument) but a 'move' of the father of lies who seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.

Did the pope lose his mind on the flight to Rome?

When he came to America in 2015, Pope Francis talked about the sin of global warming.

I call for a courageous and responsible effort to 'redirect our steps' and to avert the most serious effects of the environmental deterioration caused by human activity," he said Thursday, quoting his recent encyclical on climate change. "I am convinced that we can make a difference." Departing from his printed text, he added, "I am sure."

Did he talk about abortion?  Was he as critical of the then-recent U.S. Supreme Court redefinition of marriage, as he had been when he was in Argentina?  The whole speech sounded as though it had been written by Obama or Al Gore.

When I first read the headline, I thought it said “poutine marshes”. That would have been interesting.

Actually, so did I. I thought it might have been about all the illegal immigrants fleeing President Trump into the arms of the Mounties in rural Québec.

I just read the article from 2010. Is this the same guy? He sounds....er......Catholic....

Could it be that he was simply polishing his Catholic bona fides for the cardinal electors in the soon-to-be conclave, or am I being way too cynical?

Anytime Bergoglio sounds Catholic, it’s prolefeed.

When he’s making goo-goo eyes at trannies and abortionists, that’s the real Bergoglio.

It was Mussolini who finally drained the Pontine Marshes—then the Nazis pulled the plug and re-flooded them when they occupied Italy.

I don’t think you’re being cynical at all. I don’t think Bergoglio is stupid; I believe he is very smart, stealthy, and cunning not unlike a serpent in a certain garden.
