Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
This "discussion" between Moses and God takes place right after the Golden Calf Incident" on the journey out of Egypt. Cecil B. DeMille did a good job portraying this ugly scene, but was somewhat restrained by his own sense of decency and the cinematic standards of the day. In later versions, this scene gave the whole story of the Exodus an "R" Rating. After the exhilaration of the Mountaintop, Moses comes down to see his People engaging in some seriously degrading, barbarous, and idolatrous acts. It is then that Moses smashes the tablets, written by the Finger of God, and slays the evildoers.
What happens next is not in the Movie. From this conversation, it would seem that God has finally "had it" with the Children of Israel. He is ready to drop them for good, and not bring them into the Promised Land. Once again, Moses pleads for his wayward people, and makes an outrageous request: "Let me behold Your Glory".
There is no way a man can look upon God and live, but The LORD accommodates Moses's bold request in a unique manner. So many things have resulted from this Passage, including Michelangelo's great statue of Moses (The "rays" coming out of his head were mistranslated as "horns"), several Christian Hymns (He Hideth My Soul, Rock of Ages, etc) and LOTS of Artwork.
Perhaps Cecil B. DeMille was wise NOT to include this scene, as NOTHING can come even close.

You can take the children of Israel out of the Egypt, but you can’t take Egypt out of the children of Israel. At you need to wait 40 years.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.
