The little-known apparition of Our Lady of Good Success includes some dire propheciesbut its fundamental message is one of hope, says apologist Matthew Arnold.
Southern California apologist Matthew Arnold, author and founder of the Catholic apologetics organization Pro Multis Media, has placed his apostolate under the patronage of Our Lady of Good Success, a little-known apparition of Mary to Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres in Quito, Ecuador in 1594. Arnold, who has hosted radio programs for EWTN and the Radio Maria Network and who is the author of a forthcoming book on traditionalism in the Catholic Church, believes he is called to spread the message of this apparition and encourage devotion to the Blessed Mother under the title of Our Lady of Good Success.
Arnold previously worked in the entertainment industry before converting to the Catholic faith two decades ago. As a new convert he was initially uncomfortable with Marian apparitions, but took an interest in the apparitions at Quito, which were approved by the local bishop in 1611.
Even though the apparition had occurred 400 years before, she had many interesting things to say about the Church of our day, such as a crisis of faith and morals in the Church and in the world, Arnold said.
In the interest of spreading the message of Our Lady of Good Success, Arnold makes his presentation on the apparitions free of charge to parishes and other church groups, asking only for travel and lodging expenses. He also has a pamphlet outlining Our Ladys message at Quito, available for free on his website.
Arnold returned in February from a pilgrimage to Quito, which he organized, and discussed his visit and the apparitions that inspired it with CWR.

Thanks for posting.
I love Marian apparition stories!
Exactly how Roman Catholicism views Mary and Jesus.
Big Mary...little Jesus.
The Mary of the New Testament would not have requested an idol be made of her in such a manner.
Specifically, she asked that Catholics invoke her under the title of Our Lady of Good Success, because devotion to her under this invocation would be a great consolation to the faithful in these difficult times. She also promised her good success to all who would help to spread devotion to her under this title.
Both OT and NT teaches we are to be devoted to God only.
And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." Luke 10:27 NASB
We are also instructed to cast all of our cares on the God.
6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. 10After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 11To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:6-10 NASB
To do otherwise is a rejection of the promises made by God as given to us in the Bible.
14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Good article. I urge Catholics to read the whole thing.
Demonic apparition.
Big Mary...little Jesus."
If that were true, Catholics would only have statues of a baby Jesus. But Catholics mostly have images of Jesus as an adult. Jesus was a baby at one time, and when he was he was still no less God. When Christians have a representation of him as a baby, it's to make a particular point about something.
"The Mary of the New Testament would not have requested an idol be made of her in such a manner."
It's not an idol if one doesn't believe it is a deity. It's merely a remembrance of someone we hold in high esteem. Catholics do not believe Mary is divine, and certainly don't believe that statues of her are divine.
"Both OT and NT teaches we are to be devoted to God only."
I am devoted to my parents, my children, and my wife. God does not forbid being devoted to those we love. Catholics love Jesus's mother as he does, as should you.

I have many Roman Catholic relatives, but I have never seen a picture of Jesus and Mary together where Jesus is an adult, especially one where He is on the cross with Mary at the foot of the cross. Have you ever seen such art or iconography?
For 30 years, it was "big Mary....little Jesus".. :-)
"And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them." Luke 2: 51
How 'bout that? The second person of the Trinity made himself subject to human authority. Scandalous, eh?
For 30 years?????
How 'bout that? The second person of the Trinity made himself subject to human authority. Scandalous, eh?
You're surprised He was the perfect Son???
No......but I'm glad to hear you're not.... :-)
Ah, but that is not His perpetual state.
Philippians 2:5-11 (NASB)
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death [fn]on a cross.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
**But Catholics mostly have images of Jesus as an adult.**
That all look exactly alike, since he posed for the artists right?
Mary also?
(sigh)
I have to confess, I clicked on the Thread thinking the Headline said Martian.

Like it or not, he makes the point dramatically.
Someone else can post the one where the RC church members drop the one they are venerating during service. A silly nun almost gets injured trying to save it.
I'm surprised to hear that. I see lots of Catholic art and iconography with Jesus and Mary together as adults. One very popular image are the pictures of Jesus and Mary together in the images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In all Catholic Churches that have the stations of the cross on the walls, you see images of Mary meeting Jesus as he carries his cross. Also, representations of the wedding at Cana, Mary at the foot of the cross-- basically images of them together every place where the Gospels mention them together.
Mary is the Mother of Jesus for all time.
She was and is an integral part of God's plan for salvation.
They're artistic representations, not intended too be taken as portraits.
Okay, thanks. Maybe it is my relatives, then, or I wasn’t as observant as I thought.
Also, as for the Roman Catholic churches, I don’t think I have been in one for about 25 years when I went to a friend’s funeral. To be honest, I wasn’t really looking around at the iconography.
