Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Isaiah

Isaiah 35

Joy of the Redeemed

35 The desert and the parched land will be glad;
    the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, 2 it will burst into bloom;
    it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
    the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the Lord,
    the splendor of our God.

3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
    steady the knees that give way;
4 say to those with fearful hearts,
    “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
    he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
    he will come to save you.”

5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6 Then will the lame leap like a deer,
    and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
    and streams in the desert.
7 The burning sand will become a pool,
    the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
In the haunts where jackals once lay,
    grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

8 And a highway will be there;
    it will be called the Way of Holiness;
    it will be for those who walk on that Way.
The unclean will not journey on it;
    wicked fools will not go about on it.
9 No lion will be there,
    nor any ravenous beast;
    they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed will walk there,
10     and those the Lord has rescued will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
    everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
    and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Wonderful,
How Excellent,
How Glorious is Your Most Holy Name!
How True is Your Word, and How Mighty!
How Glorious, to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
Because, Indeed, You ARE The Beginning and the End of All Things!

For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
Fancy Ceremonies and Florid Speeches do not impress You,
For Your Have Told us You desire Obedience, not Sacrifice,
And without Faith, it is Impossible to please You.
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Although it is a Huge temptation,
As Your Works are so Wonderful!
Let us always remember,
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Those of you who know me, know that i just moved back to Massachusetts after 16 years of living in Florida. One of the reasons I moved to Florida in the first place is that I hate winter. For the first 40 years of my life, I put up with dark, miserable winters, shoveling snow, slipping on ice, attempting to unfreeze my car doors with a hair-dryer, and battling depression. However, the first sign of Spring, a little purple crocus sticking out of the snow, was usually enough to straighten me right out.

After Yesterday's gloomy pictures of Pripyat, and Isaiah's dire predictions of Judgement Day, we are suddenly treated to this Glorious Hymn of Praise and Thanksgiving describing the Return of the Redeemed of the Lord to the Land of Promise. We must remember that the original scrolls did not contain Chapter and Verse numbers, so this is actually part of the same prophecy that we read yesterday. The prophet describes the desert land bursting into bloom, with peace, prosperity, and everlasting joy. And the little flower that heralds this miracle is a little miracle all by itself...the crocus.

Agreeing in prayer. . .

I now have new respect for the crocus. I think I just planted some. . .I’m not sure. I bought a bag of bulbs at WalMart last month and had taken off the label at the top. . never thinking I would forget :) . . .Yesterday I put them all in the ground. . .didn’t have any directions. . .I think I put the right side up. . .We shall see. . .I hope I don’t have to wait until after the last snow begins to subside to see what I planted.

If they are bulbs, it doesn't matter what kind of flower...they will be beautiful, and come back every year all by themselves! :-)
