TOPICS: General Discusssion; Moral Issues
KEYWORDS: kjb; preservedword
While on the road to Emmaus, two witnesses who had heard Jesus preach and who had placed their hope in Him for Israel's redemption, were discussing all the recent events which had taken place. We don't know much about these two, but perhaps they were there that Sunday when Christ rode into Jerusalem and they participated in the spreading of palm branches and garments on the ground.

Matthew 21:8
And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them  in the way.

As they walked along discussing recent events, confusion and despair were probably heavy burdens both of them carried. It was at this time, as they thought about the cross, the rumors and the end of Israel's hope that, "Jesus himself drew near, and went with them." For reasons that aren't  made clear, their eyes were held back from recognizing the risen Saviour. Perhaps their eyes were held back by a divine commandment, to make it known that the power of God's word doesn't depend on the bodily presence of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:6-7
6 Therefore we  are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

In our current state, we're absent from His bodily presence, but He is here via His perfectly preserved word. And even though we're strangers in the world and just passing through, God is with those who believe His word and His Spirit comforts every believer.

2 Corinthians 1:4
Who comforteth  us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God

Christians today, will at times share a commonality with those two unknowns on the Emmaus road.  As we sojourn through this fallen world, we too will have many thoughts about what's going on and what it all means.  In this place, we'll have tribulations both small and great, as well as physical and emotional, but in Christ we have peace and He will draw near in our darkest hours.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

I know this is a serious thread but let me help all y’all by getting this out of the way:

In before the Blazing Saddles “THE SHERIFF IS NEAR!” reference.

That is all.

Have a blessed day, all!

“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”

There used to be a man on radio who opened up his christian broadcast singing a song with these words. Wish I could remember who it was, I’d like to find it on the internet. Anyway, I love this Emmaus scene.

Sounds like Lester Roloff on the Family Alter Program. I could be mistaken. He died years ago but I still hear his sermons on the radio.

Thank you much for that suggestion! That’s not the same man, they have different voices. But reminds me to listen to a Lester Roloff sermon my brother gave me on CD. Bless you.

Dr. Law and Dr. Grace is a very good sermon illustrating the necessity of both.
